It's time to pack!

It's time to get organised!  For those who plan to go on a long hike here is a proposed packing list.

1.  Backpack.

Size depends on whether you are going to bring all your kit around or just have enough for the day. For having enough for the day size 10-12 versus 25.  I use the Osprey Talon.

2. Camel back.

Water for the day.  I put a couple of tablets for hydration, electrolytes and magnesium.

3. Blister and other medication.

Compede, plasters, neurofen, neurofen gel, arnica cream, paracetamol, insect repellant, allergy tablets, instant coldpacks.

4. Raincoat.

I use the poncho variety which keeps the backpack dry.

5. Extra shoes/ ugly walking sandals for the flat and to make your feet air out.

6. Hat. Make sure it covers your whole face and neck.

7. Sunglasses, preferably polarised.

8. Small towel that dries easily.

9. Wipes, all varieties. Toiletries in small sizes.

10. Disinfectant and hand wash.

11. Loo roll.

12. Walking poles. For the steep bits. It really helps.

13. Quick dry technical clothing.  I just use the running kit that dries very quickly. Also long sleeve quick dry anti-sun, anti-mosquito shirts with collars and zip trousers that convert into shorts.

14. Double socks, one thin liner and one trekking for wearing above. It keeps the blisters away.

15. Fleece.  For those cold moments.

16. Head torch, for foggy days or dark mornings and walking in the trees in the dark.

17. Sun cream. Bring small one for rucksack, as well.

18. Safety pins, sewing kit.

19. Map. It also helps to have google maps on your phone.  I also use a very useful app called walkjogrun which has GPS tracking.

20. Torch

And some clothes for post hike and a pair of flip flops or nice comfortable sandals to rest those feet. I didn't include tent/sleeping bag/pillow since I don't camp!
