From Portomarin to Palas do Rei

I am sorry not to publish photos today but the Internet in this very small hotel does not really work!

Well honestly, it was a very foggy day anyway, so the photos are not great and the landscape is very similar to yesterday's blog. Plus, a lot of walking was next to a highway, not pleasant at all, and I could feel my pores block from car exhaust during the walk.

The fog had its advantage because it kept the temperature down by about 5 degrees, so I managed to complete my walk, including stops, to five hours to cover the 23 plus kilometers.  It could also be my playlist, since listening to JK Rowling's latest audio book is entertaining but it doesn't really spur you on to a quicker power walk.  A little loud dance music is always the answer.  You invariably step along to the music!

Now, about my meal last night in our hotel, Pousada de Portomarin.  The hotel is ok considering, I don't think you get much better in these towns, but I decided to buy a huge bag of nuts and chips to help out post dinner pangs.

If you ever see a "Galicia soup" on a menu, and you are not in El Bulli or similar, I would stay well away.  I couldn't have been more emphatic about the phrase "No me gusta"! The merluza (fish) in a tomato soup was passable with about four tablespoons of Tabasco, and the creme caramel should have been called a crime caramel.  It has not been a gastronomic experience so far, but perhaps in Santiago?

Ahhh...always the optimist.  Now I am off with my new found friends to do the rounds of the bars in the town.  Then tomorrow is a 29 k walk!
