Vestmannaeyjar

Vestmannaeyar is an archipelago off Iceland's sourthern coast formed by underwater volcanoes. We first explored Heimaey, which is the only inhabited island. We climbed up the volcano Eldfell to see the views of the town and surrounding islands.

It's a perfect day, unusually sunny! Normally the weather is very changeable, with strong winds and rain.I went to change into the suit below for some speed boating around the islands. I think the whole suit floats, as well as the life vest that expands upon contact with water.  Needless to say, the water is so cold I'm sure they'd have to fish you out quickly. It was very enjoyable.

Birds and more birds line the walls of the caves.

After arriving back tin Landeyjahöfn we went to explore some waterfalls in the area.

The waterfall you can walk around.

One final note.  The meals we've had so far in Iceland and have been delicious, albeit a bit rich and robust (cold weather food). There is a good restaurant in Heimaey called Slippurinn, if you're in the island.  Felt like a beach whale after lunch but really enjoyed it.
