Vernazza

                Harbour of Vernazza

What a perfect day! The weather was amazing, the views just so breathtakingly beautiful, the gelato and pesto, just what you want. You need to hike the paths to see the views and it's a great workout so you can eat what you want. We took the higher paths to see various aspects of the towns, sea and hills. They were a little steeper and rockier than yesterday's lower paths but very doable (if you are fit, of course!).

                 Vernazza from the hills

I won't go into the details of the towns of the Cinque Terre any longer since I've done that and they are all similar. You can see the charm of the area from the photos.

We hiked from Vernazza to Monterosso which, from our start in the town, including side paths, was a total vertical gain of 658 meters and down again. That's approximately 2158 feet and not difficult.  It was a bit warm, 18 degrees, to be walking in the glorious sunshine, but still comfortable.  Just hydrate those 13 kilometres of hills and you'll be eating gelato in Monterosso in no time.

            Now onwards to Monterosso.

           Gelato #5. Chocolate Fondant

A big aperol spritz to celebrate the day's hike!

Pesto from the region to finish off the day!

Another town tomorrow and another gelato flavour!
