This Year It's Roland Garros, The Drench Open! The Rain Just Means More Food Time.....

Normally, tennis at the French Open, Roland Garros is played in beautiful spring weather. The last time I remember having rainy Wimbledon weather was during the Steffi Graf/Martina Hingis rivalry on French clay many moons ago, so I guess some rain was long overdue. This year it has been cold, wet and play has been suspended repeatedly but Paris, fortunately, has foodie distractions for the disappointed tennis fan.

Once you've had your fill of steak/frites and foie gras in the many bistros around the city,  it's time to look for healthier options. Fusion seems to be the way forward around the world. Paris is no exception.

I had my meals, this trip, mainly around the Sèvres-Babylone area in Paris. It's where you find the Le Bon Marché and its food halls, nice boutiques, while the Boulevard Saint-Germain and Le Jardin du Luxembourg are just minutes away. The restaurants I mention below are all in this area.

The very unusually named Blueberry Maki Bar was recommended to me by my friend Tamara, who says on weekdays they have a very good value lunch menu.  I went there with her on a Saturday, and found the makis quite tasty!  I have included the menu so you can see the unique combinations they offer.

Another cute, small and fusiony restaurant is the area is Laiterie.

The salad of white asparagus, peas, feta, and mint was delicious, as was the white cod cooked with coriander, bokchoi, chilies and ginger. Very delicate tastes very well done with a light hand. To finish off I had a classic chocolate cake with creme fraiche. Smooth and unctuous were words my friend Belinda used to describe it. The menu is short (three/four options per course) but delicious and by French standards, incredibly healthy.

If you crave more traditional fare and want to treat yourself to a main course soufflé and a dessert soufflé, look no further than La Cigale Recamier.  I haven't included any photos of the food or menus but they have all the classics, and the service is a pleasant if a bit chaotic, to say the least. Still, after a cheese soufflé followed by a vanilla classic, you can forgive anything.
