Easter Morning

Happy Easter!

Our little garden

It's still snowing in Verbier! Forecast is cloudy today but bright sunshine tomorrow so it's definitely going to be a powder skiing day.

My close girlfriend and houseguest, Veronique, was put to a test yesterday when she decided she wanted to go with me for a stroll. We started off on a downward slope towards Le Chable. Le Chable is a village in Bagnes, Valais, below the ski resort of Verbier. What she thought was a short walk turned out to be a 3 plus hour long trek.

We proceeded on to Les Ruinettes Brasserie where chef Jono is now resident.  After over 9 km of walking and 705 meters of descent, we were ready for a good meal and we were not disappointed.

Cod fishcakes with a poached egg and tarragon hollandaise

Salad with poached pears, blue cheese, walnuts and a vinaigrette

Polenta with butternut squash, wild mushrooms and spinach

Coq au vin with crisped baked new potatoes

Washed down with a couple of glasses of wine, we still had the 705 meter and 7 kilometer ascent (we discovered some short cuts on the way down) to look forward to.  Vero, who is not a trekker/hiker, did very well to get back to Verbier village feeling a great sense of accomplishment and was in dire need of a sports massage.

The good thing was, after the calorie burning ascent we again were ready for another large meal at chalet Aldridge.

Exercise, good food and wine, good friends, fantastic views.... not a bad Easter break.
