Training For The Kumano: Cliff Walking in Cornwall
View from the top of Tintagel Castle (home of mythical King Arthur)
Training could not be more enjoyable than going cliff walking with my good mate Liz Berman in sunny Rock, Cornwall. Checked into her beautiful home in Treverra (she rents her cottage www.ckrock.com: great view, pool, jacuzzi, bliss), put on our hiking boots, poles ready and off to check out the paths around Rock. If walking and surfing is your thing and the weather is cooperating, Cornwall takes a lot of beating.

You can practically imagine the druids running around in the woods. We walked from Trethevy near Tintagel to St. Nectan's Glen.
St. Nectan's Kieve. This waterfall is believed to be a spiritual site.
Dead tree trunk full of coins for good luck in St. Nectan's Glen.
We walked around Pentire Point to the Rumps (an old iron age settlement). Laurence Binyon wrote his poem to the fallen in 1914 from a viewpoint on these cliffs.

To complete the Cornwall experience, you need to go to Rick Stein's Seafood restaurant in Padstow for a bit of crab followed by fish and chips! Speaking about food, Cornish clotted cream, ice cream and pasties (now available even in oriental fusion style) should not be missed.
White and dark crab meat with mayonnaise and a cucumber salad.
Fish and chips
Cornish pasty (beef, potato, swede, onion, seasonings...like an empanada!)
And of course, to end our cliff walking days, we had sundowners as we watched the sunset from Treverra. How perfect is that!
