Last Week in Verbier/ So Much Snow And Food!

Verbier

Bruson lift to La Pasay

It certainly didn't stop snowing in Verbier last week (except for a couple of clear days). The girls and I had to head for Bruson (across Verbier) to try and ski between the trees for visibility and had fun skiing from the top of La Pasay and down both sides. I had the nettle soup at the top cafe which was quite interesting since my only encounter with nettles was falling into a bush whilst canyoning in Turkey.  This was much more pleasant.

Bumping into Bear Grylls in La Vache restaurant.

After that we had an absolutely ski perfect day after the big snowfall in Verbier. A bit cold but the snow was powdery, the skies blue, and we finished the day having a late lunch at Chez Dany in Chemin de Clambin. Ski there from Ruinettes or get some exercise up the path to the restaurant from Verbier village.

Valais air dried beef and pumpkin soup in bread.

Lamb coconut curry (not very Swiss but excellent)

Smoked salmon open faced sandwiches at Dahu

On the food note, if you want a quick snack, the bar at Dahu restaurant at Le Chaux has some good nibbles which are quite reasonable, considering Swiss prices. The restaurant is excellent, if you have the time, and don't forget to try the Dahu pizza with truffle oil or the roast chicken.  Book to avoid the queues. Chemin du Bry (take the Le Chaux express from Ruinettes straight there, walk a path from Ruinettes or ski down to Le Chaux.)

Pork belly at Le Bec

And of you want to stay in town, the food in the Mountain Air shop, Brasserie Le Bec, has some wonderful eats: good burgers and club sandwiches, a chicken quinoa salad and the slow cooked pork belly with crispy cracking, yum!

After that excellent week of skiing and consuming vast amount of calories, I headed off to the airport to go back to London for a few days.  Unfortunately, they've stopped the chicken and rice stir fry at the airport which was quite good, even at an eye watering price of 26 Swiss for a quick cafeteria hit. So now, I had to settle for their fried seemingly homemade (not, I asked) crisps. Greasy but not a bad way to end the week.
