Sayonara Tokyo!

After the Kumado Kodo, there was no time for a bit of r & r since it was Halloween.  The Japanese have embraced the occasion whole heartedly, bringing the costume level to new heights.

We kicked off with two evenings in the Bauhaus, a nightclub in Minato.  They have the most entertaining rock band which plays western rock covers and has a great atmosphere. We went for their Halloween special. Go check them out. Loads of fun and rock and roll!

Then we went around the bars in the area taking some photos of the costumed Japanese. You just have to love their enthusiasm! I'm sure they prepare for this occasion for weeks!

I also went to check out the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills.  They have interesting changing exhibitions which included a photograph like this one. Cultural break between the numerous shops in the area.

Finally, there were a few interesting restaurants I'd like to recommend.

For very good Gyoza, there is      also in the Minato area. A bit hole in the wall kind of place but the fried Gyoza is delicious!

For the best tonkatsu. Again, a very informal little restaurant in Roppongi Hills with a very reasonable set meal.  Be prepared to queue.  The tonkatsu is that good.

Finally, for great crab (cut to perfection, you don't need to do any work getting the meat out), oysters and other delicacies.  Book though.  It's quite a big restaurant on two floors but it does get packed!

I have mentioned other restaurants throughout this Japan series but I also mentioned others in my 2014 Japan trip, so don't forget to check that section of this blog, too.

What a trip! Can't wait to go back again! When you go just remember that you don't open or shut the taxi doors (driver does it), there are no rubbish bins anywhere (they think it's rude to eat or smoke on the streets but ok to smoke in restaurants where there are ash trays), you need to reserve your seats on trains, get a pasmo card for buses and trains, get a JRP train ticket before you leave for unlimited long distance train travel for less (you can't get it in Japan, it's for foreigners only), and learn to be very OCD.  There is no country as clean and organised as this and the people are lovely! Finally, eat loads.  Japanese food is good but not that fattening :)
