Mala Mala Delivers Big Game
The Rattray family have owned it since 1964 and it is approximately 20 x 8 km in size and is true, pristine wilderness. Animals roam freely to and from Kruger National Park and the actual camp is not fenced so you can bump into any wild animal at night! We stayed indoors in our rooms after dinner just to play safe. I think being eaten must be a pretty gruesome end.
The main camp sleeps up to 40 guests and the other two small camps in the area sleep another 14. It has a gym, infinity pool, massage area, restaurants, a bar and a lounge.
Mala Mala is all about big game and it does not disappoint. The atmosphere is colonial, the food is, ummm, English comfort food and marmite even makes an appearance at breakfast. Somehow it all gels together perfectly to deliver what you expect from a traditional safari.
These are the animals we saw several times over 6 game drives. Game drives are 7-12 am and 3-7 pm.

The safari experience was well organised by expert ranger Gregg who made sure we were safe and well looked after.
The Land Rover truly is an impressive vehicle. It handles extremely well in all terrain and we never left it except for an organised walk. You don't leave the car unless you want to become someone's snack!
It's wild beautiful country.
