Young Kunjan, the Nepalese trainer, and training for the Everest challenge.
Training in London.
If you are going to train for Everest, why not train with a Nepalese trainer from the region! Kunjan looks about 12, but believe me, he is strict and knowledgeable. His father ran the Everest marathon twice and came second. He knows the route and like most Nepalese, is very smiley and friendly. Find him at the Harbour Club.
Kunjan is helping me with the strength training, assuming I do my aerobic and endurance training religiously. A lot of plank holds (and I mean loads of plank) and other core stability work, plus he is working on my glute strength for those steep downhill days! If you have had 4 knee operations like I have, you need to take the stress in the glutes and toes, rather than the knees.
Otherwise it's outside walking in all kinds of weather daily or running on a trampoline for an hour and cycling for an hour, timed interval training on the versa climber, all trying to keep a heart rate between 120-130 for, plus yoga or ab work for breathing and that six pack (I wish) . It's hugely time consuming. I can barely eat enough calories to keep my weight stable. More chocolate cake, please!
RECENT ROUTES
At the end of the day, however, nothing beats going up and down snow and climbing up to 1000 meters a day in altitude. So in a couple of weeks, it's daily climbs in Verbier!
Looking forward to seeing my expert mountain friend, Cherries!
